The rules:

  • The theme, “Re-Vision”, can be interpreted in any way you choose, using the Edwin & Mary Bloomfield Coverlet as your starting point
  • You may take any aspect of the coverlet as your source of inspiration, from the general design, to the colours or shapes, the text, or the wider context of the quilt against its historic/academic background.
  • The work must be new and conform to the general definition of a quilt, being at least two layers with a reasonable amount of stitch holding the layers together.
  • The edge treatment should be finished to exhibition standard and in keeping with the style of the quilt.
  • Size: 18x24 inches in portrait format. The top edge must measure the full stated dimension for ease of hanging.
  • Only two-dimensional pieces can be accepted.
  • Any styles, techniques, or materials can be used.
A 4” wide D-shaped sleeve must be attached to the back, set 1/2” from the top edge (please note this is not the same as in previous challenges) and 1” from the sides. It must be able to accommodate a wooden batten (see www.cqchallenges.org/guidelines.html for advice).
  • A label must be attached to the back of the quilt giving your name and the title of the quilt.
  • Selected quilts must be available for any further exhibitions during the following twelve months.

Your submission:

Entry should be made online at www.cqchallenges.org using the Re-Vision Entry Form by 29th March 2019. Online entry enables us to automatically generate labels and lists for exhibition and to provide images and information for jurors. If online submission is not possible, please contact the organiser.

The entry form will ask for:
  • Your name, address, email, telephone number, and Guild membership number
  • The title of your piece
  • A written statement of the inspiration and design concept (max 100 words)
  • A list of materials and techniques used
You will have the option to enter for the Anne Tuck Award if you have been a CQ member for less than 3 years. As a winner your quilt would tour with the rest of the collection irrespective of whether it was accepted for the main collection. For details of this award see the Files on the CQ Yahoo site.

The image upload form will ask for:
  • An image of your quilt, showing the entire, completed quilt. This should be of excellent quality and at least 2MB. If you are unable to attach an image using the form, contact admin@cqchallenges.org

Important: You will also be asked to send to the organiser an 8" square sample using the same fabrics and techniques as the main work. This should demonstrate the look and feel of the quilt. This piece is an important part of the jurying process and is also used in the sample books that we display at exhibitions. It must be labelled with your name and the title of the quilt.

Your sample should be sent to Judy Fairless at The Stables, The Paddock, Willaston, Nantwich, CW5 7HJ
