Judy Fairless - One for Sorrow
I was fascinated by the birds in the quilt and also the use of text. I have a lot of magpies in my garden which led to me using them as my own exotic birds, together with the rhyme “One For Sorrow”, associated with these birds. Both the background pattern which is derived from the Maltese crosses and digitally manipulated from my own hand block prints, and the colours used, reference the original quilt.
Materials and techniques:
Fabric and wadding 100% cotton.
Digitally printed background fabric(outsourced)
Cotton and rayon threads.
Free motion quilting.
