Annie Henderson-Begg - And Peace Be Upon Israel
I found this to be a real challenge and inspiration did not come easily. I aimed to evoke the feeling of a traditional piece of needlework, achieved through my own contemporary methods of working and using as many recycled materials as possible.
I liked the leaf patterns on the red fabric bordering the biblical quotes and knew I wanted to feature them. As a Jewish atheist, most of the text passages were a severe turn off, but I do yearn for peace in Israel and for my family who live there, hence the quotation I chose to feature.
Materials and techniques:
Recycled cottons and some commercial fabrics. Quilting design created in Affinity Designer, printed onto tracing paper for quilting through.
Text and leaf pattern in-filled with Pebeo Setacolor fabric paints after quilting.
